Mandelbrot LLC is named after mathematician and IBM fellow emeritus Benoit Mandelbrot (1924-2010). During his lifetime, Mandelbrot’s intellect and access to IBM’s mainframes allowed him to develop mathematics that describe the rough shapes found in nature (i.e. bolts of lightning), the motion of stock markets and hundreds of other applications. Today, his work can be seen in a wide variety of fields, most commonly in computer generated images of natural phenomena.
