Web Development

Your website is a perishable asset.

Websites are the front window of your shop. If you leave the same items on display for too long, people will start to think nobody's home. It's ok to have a simple, clean website without a ton of content. It's another thing to have unreadable, tiny text that you have to scroll around with your fingers to read on your phone or SSL warnings.

The good news is that AI's killer app is writing webpages, so it's cheaper than ever to update an old webpage. Unfortunately, the bad news is that unless you're looking to start a career as a web developer, it's still not worth learning enough to actually publish that webpage on the internet. There is still quite a bit of nuanced engineering and architecture that you're going to need a human being to scaffold up and build. And at the end of the day, who do you really want to be responsible for keeping a web server secure and running?

Mandelbrot has years of experience running web servers, webhooks, APIs, micro services, FileMaker servers and a variety of other hosted items. While we can do traditional web servers, our favorite way of publishing websites is via Amazon S3's static web hosting with CloudFront. I love it because it's insanely cheap, incredibly resilient and really easy to update. I built this site with raw HTML and JavaScript. Then I put it on the web for under $1 per month. It's what's known as a "static" website, so I don't even need to babysit another web server.
